Michigan gaming regulators announced Tuesday that BetRivers Poker has been approved to start pooling players from Pennsylvania, Delaware, and West Virginia as part of the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement.
Michigan has been part of MSIGA since 2022. BetRivers becomes the fourth operator to the online poker multi-state market.
WSOP have all been networking players from other markets. Players across the aforementioned states have gotten a boost since Pennsylvania’s entrance in late April. The Keystone State has the largest population of the four states in the pool.
BetRivers ed all requirements
For players to start competing against others in different states, BetRivers, which operates online poker in Michigan, was required to undergo a process. The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) said the operator submitted a request to participate in MSIGA on March 31.
The board approved BetRivers after a thorough review, MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams told PlayMichigan.
“Multi-state internet poker offers players a larger pool of participants and more opportunities for competitive play.
“We’re pleased to authorize Rush Street Interactive to the multi-state poker community, ensuring a safe, secure, and fair gaming environment for players in Michigan and our partner states.”
Online poker continues to grow in the Great Lakes State, especially now that BetRivers gives players another multi-state option.
Poker pro helps with app development
BetRivers launched its online poker app in Pennsylvania in October 2024 with help from poker pro Phil Galfond.
Galfond has been with the company since 2022 and provided hands-on involvement into the launch of the app. The poker pro ensured that every feature, from game variety to the reward systems, serves the poker community authentically. Galfond said in October:
“As poker players, we designed this platform from the ground up to be for the players – all players. From the amateur playing their very first hand to the sophisticated pro, everyone was kept in mind as we focused on fairness, excitement, and generous rewards that truly benefit the player.
“I’ve been heavily involved in the game design, promotions, and policy decisions, and, more importantly, in building an incredible team that sees online poker the way I do.”
BetRivers going live and Pennsylvania ing MSIGA has a direct impact on the Michigan market. Players in the Great Lakes State are able to compete with others across several markets.
A new player pool also increases prize pools for tournaments, which is a win-win for players and operators.
